How to Photograph Water Drops.I am often asked how to get such colorful and dynamic shots of water drops. The tools are: A garbage bag with a small hole in it filled with some water and hung from above in a position that will drip to the same spot repeatedly. The object is to have the drop hit the same splash zone each time to utilize a fixed focus point. Be sure and position the aquarium side you are shooting through far enough from the spash zone to minimize cleaning water off the glass.A glass sided aquarium (I use a rectangular on) with 3" of water in it. Put colorful or patterned image under the bottom of the aquaium and up the back side. Digital camera with a macro lenses positioned along a short side of the aqaurium above the waterline. Set the camera for as many exposures/second at a high shutter speed. Lighting is studio lights, shop lights and camera flash, whatever you have available for multiple light sources. Light the splash area enough to allow a high shutter speedResults: there will probably be a lot of failures and a few good ones. Experiment with different lighting, different colors, different camera positions and surf the web for other tips. Have fun astounding your friends with your results.
